Fast Fashion's Climate Crisis

Motion Design

Project Objective
Create a motion piece that creatively visualizes how something works or a set of facts or statistics, and include at least one section that is handmade or uses practical effects.

Concept
The expansion and globalization of the fast fashion industry has dire consequences to the environment that not all consumers understand, or are willing to confront given the affordability of these new styles. As an explainer, it is not only important to state the facts of the industry's impact, but to also suggest feasible changes to our collective consumption of clothing and our complicit role in these environmental damages.

Design
The video relies heavily on evocative imagery and bold type, as a robotic voice narrates. In many sections of the video, constant motion and the changing of images emulate the rapidity of fast fashion production and wastefulness, while also innundating the viewer with more and more uncomfortable information. There is also a deliberate inclusion of the addictive experience of clicking and one-stop shopping through online retailers, and the excess of social media's fashion and style consumption.
